M.W. Stevens is an American singer-songwriter. As a kid, he had always wanted to be a performer, but was kicked out of every choral group he signed up for. He gave up on these dreams for years, but reignited the flame after discovering a rusted acoustic guitar collecting dust in the basement. Using scotch tape to protect his fingers from the rust, and pennies as guitar pics, Stevens began writing music, eventually performing his first song “Trepidation” at the age of 16 to over a thousand people.
The experience led him to play in bands such as the popular garage band Lateshift with Ernie Fowler, the comedy duo Hint of Pledge with Insane Ian, the acoustic jam fusion trio Stark Madness, and later as a guest performer with Metamorphosis. After building a very basic home studio with parts from Radio Shack and Sears, he recorded and released his first album, a collection of acoustic songs, in 2004.
In the years that followed, Stevens has recorded and released new music every few years, with each recording showing exponential growth in his skills. As a result, he has earned a side-hustle as an acoustic rock performer, having headlined spaces such as Rams Head Live, Recher Theater, and Five Martini Bar.
His music draws inspiration from the post-grunge era of the late 90’s, but is always striving to be original and different, at the risk of being artsy and experimental.
